(ASTEC), which has been a member of the TWR Group since shortly after its formation in 1989, began by producing components for the Jaguar XJR-11 Sports prototype racing car, and is perhaps best known for producing the Jaguar Sport XJR-15 carbon fibre supercar. But the firm's expertise in advanced structural engineering has also won it business in the aerospace and defence industries, in medical equipment and metrology, and in tooling, high speed machinery and robotics. The company, which is based at Draycott in Derbyshire, specialises in the use of advanced composite materials. Components manufactured by the firm have included shells for aircrew helmets, wind tunnel blades and measuring machine parts, as well as prototype vehicle panels. Recent accreditation to BS5750 further confirmed the high standards set by a company involved in a highly specialised field of structural engineering. "Our present and future customers expect ASTEC to maintain good standards in quality assurance, and this is a demonstration to them of the importance we place on this aspect of our operation," said managing director Mark Knowles.
